Wylie & the Wild West were performing there unique brand of Western music in Russia during the last two weeks of March on a tour sponsored by the American Folklife Center in Washington DC and co-hosted by the international CEC Artist Link program. The group, along with poet Paul Zarzyski, played 5 different Russian cities including St. Petersburg, Moscow, Arkanglske, Kazan and Nizny Novgorod. It was found that Russia is indeed yodeler friendly territory! The tour also included a command performance for the US Ambassador to Russia and 300 personal guests at the Spaso House in Moscow. In March Wylie Gustafson and guitarist Mark Thronton were part of the “Don’t Fence Me In Tour” sponsored by the NCTA (National Council for the Traditional Arts) along with artists The Quebe Sisters Band, Los Texmaniacs, North Bear Singers and poet Paul Zarzyski. The tour consisted of performing at 12 of the most prestigious theatres along the West Coast of America from Olympia, WA to La Jolla, CA.
In April the band will be performing at the world famous Merlfest Music Festival in Wilkesboro, North Carolina. Wylie Gustafson, Jimmie Lauderdale and Clair Lynch will present a special songwriters segment during the festival.
Wylie & the Wild West are gearing up for a busy summer which includes performances at the Ballard Seafood Festival, the Red Ants Pants Festival and the Spokane Interstate Fair.
